the little things

In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

- Thessalonians 5:18 (KJV)

I have a friend who takes turns with his wife praying with their child every night before bed.
He said that one of the things he does is to thank God for random things, things like blue jays, pizza, carpet, and the smell of rain.
He does this because he wants to instill in his child gratitude for even the most random, mundane things we enjoy.

He goes on to say that it is easy to be thankful for a pay raise or food, but when we start to look at the smallest things in our life as arenas for joy it can fundamentally change our outlook on life.
I was moved to tears when I read that on his Facebook page last week.
He went on to say that we should be thankful for the fuzzy robe or fresh milk or a nice smelling candle.
That we must teach our children this as we work on learning it ourselves because we need to practice it.
He is right you know; we need to learn to be thankful for the tiniest things in our lives, the little things that we don’t often consider but might be lost without.

We truly don’t know what we have until it is gone.
What little things make you happy?
