I’m not finished

And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue His work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.

- Philippians 1:6 (NLT)

We often hear that God has a plan for us and we wonder what that plan might be or where we are in it.
There are things that we do not know, we just have to trust that God knows what He is doing, and that He is not finished.
We might be a hot mess or a beautiful disaster, but God is not done.
Two songs come to mind when I hear this verse, the first was released in 2008 by Brandon Heath called “Wait and See”:
I was born in Tennessee

Late July humidity

Doctor said I was lucky to be alive

I've been trouble since the day that I got here

Trouble till the day that I disappear

That'll be the day that I finally get it right

There is hope for me yet

Because God won't forget

All the plans he's made for me

I have to wait and see

He's not finished with me yet

He's not finished with me yet

I never really was that good in school

I talked too much, broke the rules

Teacher thought I was hopeless fool alright

I don't know how but I made it through

It's one of those things that you've gotta do

But I always had a knack for telling the truth

There is hope for me yet

Because God won't forget

All the plans he's made for me

I have to wait and see

He's not finished with me yet

He's not finished with me yet

Still wondering why I'm here

Still wrestling with my fear

But oh, He's up to something

And the farther on I go

I've seen enough to know

That I'm, not here for nothing

He's up to something

So now's my time to be a man

Follow my heart as far as I can

No telling where I'm ending up tonight

I never slow down or so it seems

But singing my heart it's one of my dreams

All I gotta do is hold on tight

There is hope for me yet

Because God won't forget

All the plans he's made for me

I have to wait and see

He's not finished with me yet
The second is newer, released in 2017 by Mandisa called “Unfinished”:

Not scared to say it

I used to be the one

Preaching it to you

That you could overcome

I still believe it

But it ain't easy

'Cause that world I painted

Where things just all work out

It started changing

And I started having doubts

And it got me so down

But I picked myself back up

And I started telling me

No, my God's not done

Making me a masterpiece

He's still working on me

He started something good and I'm gonna believe it

He started something good and He's gonna complete it

So I'll celebrate the truth

His work in me ain't through

I'm just unfinished

I'm just unfinished

So I'll celebrate the truth

His work in me ain't through

I'm just unfinished

I know His history

And the kind of God He is

He might make it a mystery

But He's proving I can trust in Him

And yeah, I believe it

...

Still, still working on me

Oh, yeah

I'm just unfinished

When things get tough, remember that this situation we are in is only temporary, it is not the final chapter, God is not done yet!
