If we claim that we’re free of sin, we’re only fooling ourselves.
A claim like that is errant nonsense. On the other hand, if we admit our
sins—make a clean breast of them—He won’t let us down; He’ll be true to
himself. He’ll forgive our sins and purge us of all wrongdoing. If we claim
that we’ve never sinned, we out-and-out contradict God—make a liar out of Him.
A claim like that only shows off our ignorance of God.
- 1 John 1:8-10 (MSG)
I have a past.
My past is not pretty, I
have been through some things that would break others.
Things that broke me,
others sailed through.
But my past does not
define me.
I know that I sinned, that
I still sin, but that sin does not describe the person I am.
I can admit my mistakes, I
can own my sin, I am human, and while I know that I have disappointed people, I
also know that there is forgiveness.
I will never claim to be
without sin, because the truth is much better, the truth will set us free, free
in the One who died for us, that we can be forgiven.
