it’s the truth

Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth.

One of the things that I like about the internet is the ability to have multiple translations of the Bible at my fingertips. 

The Bible can be difficult to understand sometimes and having different translations to help discern the meaning when you don’t want to call your pastor at 3am is amazingly wonderful.

I didn’t used to like the Message translation, I felt like it was too wordy and, in some cases, “dumbed down”, for example this verse in the New Living Translation is a mere 13 words, but the Message translation is 132 words:  

Now I’m returning to you. I’m saying these things in the world’s hearing So my people can experience My joy completed in them. I gave them your word; The godless world hated them because of it, Because they didn’t join the world’s ways, Just as I didn’t join the world’s ways. I’m not asking that you take them out of the world But that you guard them from the Evil One. They are no more defined by the world Than I am defined by the world. Make them holy—consecrated—with the truth; Your word is consecrating truth. In the same way that you gave me a mission in the world, I give them a mission in the world. I’m consecrating myself for their sakes So they’ll be truth-consecrated in their mission.
The words that stood out to me here are “The godless world hated them because of it, Because they didn’t join the world’s ways” .

I get it that not everyone believes in God. 
Sometimes people that disagree with how I have interpreted the verse or perhaps they didn’t like it because my words hit a bit too close to home for their comfort.

I have literally lost friends over some of the words that I have posted because my words don’t support their belief.

Sorry / not sorry?

Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life”. (John 14:6)

In John 1:1 we see this: In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God.

The godless will hate this.

I don’t care. 

The word is the truth, and that truth is Jesus.
