It was God Who said, “The light will shine in darkness.” He is the One Who made His light shine in our hearts. This brings us the light of knowing God’s shining-greatness which is seen in Christ’s face.
- 2 Corinthians 4:6 (NLV)
I have referenced this verse a few times in my writing, but it is usually around Christmas time, because of the whole “light of the world” vibe I get from it.
There are a lot of times that we need light, not just at Christmas.
We need light in our lives when we are at the end of our rope.
We need light when our world is blanketed in darkness.
Light gives us hope, guides us home.
The Afters released a song Light Up the Sky in 2010, check out the lyrics:
When I'm feeling all alone
With so far to go
The signs are nowhere on this road
Guiding me home
When the night is closing in
Is falling on my skin
Oh God, will you come close
You light, light, light up the sky
You light up the sky to show me that you are with me
And I, I, I can't deny
No I can't deny that you are right here with me
You've opened my eyes
So I can see you all around me
You light, light, light up the sky
You light up the sky to show me that you are with me
When stars are hiding in the clouds
I don't feel them shining
When I can't see beyond my doubt
The silver lining
When I've almost reached the end
Like a flood you're rushing in
Your love is rushing in (your love is rushing in)
You light, light, light up the sky
You light up the sky to show me that you are with me
And I, I, I can't deny
No I can't deny that you are right here with me
You've opened my eyes
So I can see you all around me
You light, light, light up the sky
You light up the sky to show me that you are with me
So I'll run straight into your arms
You're the bright and morning sun
To show your love there's nothin' you won't do (nothin' you won't do)
You light, light, light up the sky
You light up the sky to show me that you are with me
And I, I, I can't deny
No I can't deny that you are right here with me
You've opened my eyes
So I can see you all around me
You light, light, light up the sky
You light up the sky to show me that you are with me
That you are with me
Even in our darkest hour, we are not alone.
God’s light shines on us, in us and through us, even when we can’t see it, that light is still there.
Jesus isn’t just the Light of the Christmas season, He is the light of ALL seasons, and we need to continue to let Him shine in our lives so others may see Him.
