I have blotted out, like a thick cloud, your transgressions, And like a cloud, your sins. Return to Me, for I have redeemed you.”
- Isaiah 44:22 (NKJV)
Have you ever heard a song that made you absolutely stop in your tracks and listen?
In 2022 Ben Fuller released But The Cross, here are the lyrics:
I heard shame told you a story that you can't escape your past
That the innocence you lost, there's no way to get it back
I heard fear sold you some fiction, you bought everything he had
Made you too afraid to live, and kept your heart under attack
They say you're too guilty for His grace
You're too far gone and now you're too late
But the Cross (but the Cross) says they're wrong (says they're wrong)
Don't believe the words they say, let the truth wash them away
'Cause His blood ('cause His blood) says you're loved (says you're loved)
Every lie is bound to leaven when there's nothing you believe but the Cross
I've been right there where you're standing
All those things, they told me too
That I was out of second chances, and I was only born to lose
They said I was born to lose
But the Cross (but the Cross) says they're wrong (says they're wrong)
Don't believe the words they say, let the truth wash them away
'Cause His blood ('cause His blood) says you're loved (says you're loved)
Every lie is bound to leave when there's nothing you believe but the Cross
Shame tells me I'm broken (I've been broken)
But I know I'm forgiven (I'm forgiven)
Fear tells me it's over (it's not over)
But this is the beginning (it's the beginning)
(Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh) they can say whatever they want
(Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh) they can say whatever they want
But the Cross says they're wrong
I don't believe the words they say 'cause the truth washed them away
Oh, His blood (His blood) says I'm loved (I'm loved)
Every lie is bound to leave when there's nothing we believe but the Cross (the Cross)
of the Cross, the Cross
(This is the beginning) of the Cross
But the cross.
Simple words that say so much.
I read that Ben Fuller struggled with drug and alcohol addiction very early in life.
He lost his best friend to a heroin overdose, and he was motivated by that event to change his life.
Now Ben is completely sober, and he focuses on helping people who struggle with addiction through his music.
We have freedom from sin because of the cross.
We have a way to Heaven because of the cross.
We are redeemed because of the cross.
We are so loved that the Savior died for us on that cross.
