This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary.
- Hebrews 6:19 (NLT)
Anchors come in all shapes, sizes, and purposes.
Probably the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about an anchor is something nautical, a device made of metal tossed overboard a boat or ship to hold it in place.
There is also the kind of anchor used to support structures, as in construction.
And climbers use anchors for fall protection and restraint.
A spiritual anchor is something that helps keep us grounded, connected to what matters most, giving us the ability to cope with the challenges that life brings (thank you, dictionary.com).
The anchor we find in scripture can represent hope, salvation, stability, or security when our soul is firm in the Lord.
It is well with my soul indeed, because my anchor is in Jesus.
