Happy Saint Patrick’s day!
I have found many fun facts about St. Patrick that I want to share!
- The patron saint of Ireland was in fact born in Britain.
- He was never canonized as a saint by the Catholic Church.
- He did not drive snakes out of Ireland.
- He used the shamrock, a three leafed plant to explain the Holy Trinity to unbelievers.
- He had the permission of the High King Laoghaire of Tara to spread the Gospel in Ireland.
- He is credited with expanding literacy in Ireland and converting a large majority of the population to Christianity.
- He championed the causes of women, the poor, and slaves.
- His death date is recorded as March 17th, but the year of his death is speculated.
St. Patrick wanted to spread the Gospel, as we are all commanded to do, this is the Great Commission, to declare His glory to all nations.
Wear your green, eat chocolate coins, and watch out for leprechauns today, but above all, tell someone about your Jesus.
