Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
- Psalm 119:105
When I was a teenager, my friends and I used to go walking at night in the summer.
Iowa can get pretty hot and humid and sometimes after the sun went down was the best time to walk to the park and meet our friends.
We never got scared except for this one section that had no street lights and that section was so dark you could not see your hand in front of your face.
We did not normally walk that way but it was a short cut and a storm was rolling in so we were in a hurry to get home, and that night, we were afraid.
We thought we heard noises, we thought we were being followed, we tripped a few times, we prayed out loud that God would protect us and when we looked, could see a single light in the distance.
Song reference!
Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path
Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path
When I feel afraid
Think I've lost my way
Still you're there right beside me
And nothing will I fear
As long as you are near
Please be near me to the end
Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path
Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path
I will not forget
Your love for me and yet
My heart forever is wandering
Jesus be my guide
And hold me to your side
I will love you to the end
Nothing will I fear as long as you are near
Please be near me to the end
Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path
Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path
And a light unto my path
You're the light unto my path
We never walked that way at night again, and in fact I hadn’t thought about that night in a long time, but looking back, I truly believe that God heard the cries of two scared girls and powered that light on to guide us home.
You see, God works that way for real, when our world is dark and we are scared and alone, all we have to do is call on God to guide us.
He will always put us on the right path.
