May the 4th be with you!

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.

- Colossians 3:15

May the fourth be with you.

Sorry that is a little nerdy – it’s ok, I embrace my nerdiness.

Today though, I would rather say may the Peace be with you.

Peace seems to be hard to come by these days, there is so much turmoil and sadness in the world, it just doesn’t feel very peaceful.

How do you find peace with all the craziness of life?

I have discovered that quiet is the start to finding my peace.

No music, no tv, just me, my coffee or water and maybe a cat purring.

In that quiet, I can read, meditate pray, and in that quiet, I can find peace.

Try it, find five minutes of quiet, then extend that 5 minutes to whatever you need to find peace.

Don’t forget Philippians 4:7 and John 14:27 – God gave us this peace.

friends forever

A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity.

- Proverbs 17:17

What do you consider a friend?

There are social media friends, work friends, church friends, organization friends, school friends, friends that you have known so long you can’t quite remember at what point you became friends!

How often do you evaluate your friendships?

Friends should encourage and support us, pick us up when we’re are at our lowest points, and give us a kick in the booty when we are being dumb.

How many friends do you have that can be counted on to be there no matter the time, weather or situation, if you need them they are there?

These are the friends that the Bible speaks of, the friends that will “lay down their life”, the friends that are there in times of adversity.

These are the friends we need to cling to, never let go, and be there for them too!

I know who I can count on, who my Proverbs 17 friend is.

Do you?

change

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

- Hebrews 13:8

Change can be completely overwhelming, even the tiniest change.

We need to remember that change can bring hope for a better future, even if we don’t see it in the moment.

Sometimes, change causes us to feel as though we have lost everything, and we can’t see any good, and happiness.

It is when we are struggling through those changes that we need to remember that Jesus is consistent, constant, He never changes.

God knows our every step before we take it, He knows the beginning, middle and end of our stories, He is not surprised by anything.

We need to trust in the unchanging One, rather then putting our trust in a fallen world.

identity?

Long ago, even before He made the world, God chose us to be His very own through what Christ would do for us; He decided then to make us holy in His eyes, without a single fault—we who stand before Him covered with His love.

- Ephesians 1:4

Who are we, really?

There are so many song references here I can’t even begin to name them all, much less throw the lyrics in this post, you would be reading (and singing) all day!

We are Children of God, His creation, the ones He made in His image, the ones that He loves.

He loves us. (oh, how He loves us)

He loves me. (this I know)

He loves your best friend and your worst enemy. (the overwhelming never ending reckless love of God)

Who am I that He is mindful of me? (I am a friend of God, He calls me friend!)

I am who He says I am (I’m a child of God, yes I am!)

Do you wonder who you are?

Pick up the Bible and start reading any of the letters Paul wrote, you will see a recurring theme – God loves us.

Child of God, daughter of the King, that is my identity.

advice

Wise people can also listen and learn; even they can find good advice in these words.

- Proverbs 1:5 (NCV)

We all need advice from time to time, I know I seek advice quite often.

Where do we turn when we need advice?

Most of us will mention our spouse, parents, siblings, friends or even our pastor or an elder at the church.

How many of us actually turn to the Word of God when we need advice?

The Bible has many verses and stories that offer advice, encouragement, peace and comfort.

You can use google and say “what does the Bible say about. . .  ” or “Bible verse for . . .”

You might be surprised in what you find, wise people can indeed listen and learn.

presence

You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.

- Psalm 16:11

Have you ever felt the presence of God?

I mean really, just felt that presence?

I have, and it was like something washed over me, and I just felt overwhelmed, like every fear, trouble, all pain was washed away for the moment.

Song reference:

Found in Your hands

Fullness of joy

Every fear suddenly wiped away

Here in Your presence

All of my gains now fade away

Every crown no longer on display

Here in Your presence

Heaven is trembling in awe of Your wonders

The kings and their kingdoms are standing amazed

Here in Your presence

We are undone

Here in Your presence

Heaven and Earth become one

Here in Your presence

All things are new

Here in Your presence

Everything bows before You

Wonderful

Beautiful

Glorious

Matchless in every way

Wonderful

Beautiful

Glorious

Matchless in every way

Here in Your presence

We are undone

Here in Your presence Heaven and Earth become one

Here in Your presence

All things are new

Here in Your presence

Everything bows before You

I want to always be in His presence, I feel so safe there.

look up

While Aaron was speaking to the whole Israelite community, they looked toward the desert, and there was the glory of the Lord appearing in the cloud.

- Exodus 16:10

I kind of wish that this verse said that they looked up.

The whole community was frustrated at this point, having left Egypt and they were about a month and a half into their travels, feeling like they would have rather died in Egypt than going to the desert to “starve to death”.

The Bible says that the Lord hear their grumblings and said He would provide food, and as Aaron and Moses were explaining this, the Lord appeared in the cloud.

God was there the whole time, the Israelites just needed to look up!

Song reference!

Where are You now

When darkness seems to win?

Where are You now

When the world is crumbling?

Oh I, I-I-I, I hear You say

I hear You say

Look up child, ayy

Look up child, ayy

Where are You now (where are You?)

When all I feel is doubt?

Oh, where are You now

When I can't figure it out?

Oh I, I-I-I, I hear You say

I hear You say

Look up child, ayy

Look up child, ayy

Look up child, ayy

Look up child, ayy

Look up

You're not threatened by the war

You're not shaken by the storm

I know You're in control

Even in our suffering

Even when it can't be seen

I know You're in control

Oh I, I-I-I, I hear You say

I hear You say

Look up child, ayy

Look up child, ayy

Look up

It is really that simple, folks.

When we don’t think that He is there, He is!

We just have to look up.

When we are feeling alone, in the dark, feeling doubt, feeling like the world is falling apart around us, we just have to look up.

He is there.

Always.

Look up.
