contentment

I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.

- Philippians 4:11

Are you content, or are you always reaching for more?

I have known several people that always have to have the next best thing, no matter how far in debt it takes them.

Some people even compete with their spouse to ensure they always have the best of the best, but at what cost?

2020 was indeed a hard year for us, and I see so many posts across social media about 2021 not being better (ya’all we are only 11 days in, how can we compare yet?).

Yes, 2020 was crazy, but look hard, you will find things for which you are thankful.

I got my first grandchild, that is worth celebrating!

I learned that I can work from home and still maintain a work/life balance (yeah that is a work in progress, folks!).

I was able to spend time with family without the hustle and bustle of everyone having things to do.

I grew in my walk with God.

I am content, are you?

life preserver

Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life. You stretch out your hand against the anger of my foes; with your right hand you save me.

- Psalm 138:7

God is many things to many people.

He is good, everlasting, all powerful, Creator, Father.

He is gracious, merciful, loving and kind.

He is the great I am.

He gives us everything we need, water when we thirst, food when we hunger, protection while we sleep.

He gives life, and He is life.

Never doubt for a moment that He is real, that He loves you and that You are held by Him every minute of every day.

friends

Sweet friendships refresh the soul and awaken our hearts with joy, for good friends are like the anointing oil that yields the fragrant incense of God’s presence.

- Proverbs 27:9

I have been blessed with many friendships.

Some have endured years, some were lost along the way, some were rekindled.

Having friends and building relationships is an integral part of our lives on earth.

We need friends to teach us, and to learn from us.

To walk with us, and to lead us.

To cry with us and to share in our joy.

Treasure your friends, whether they are with you for a week or a year, a decade or a century, the right friends will truly reflect God’s presence and love in your life.

Mystery

Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.

- Jeremiah 33:3

“Yesterday is history.  Tomorrow is a mystery.  And today?  Today is a gift. That’s why we call it the present.”

Lots of people are credited for having said this first, from Alice Morse Earle in 1902 to Eleanor Roosevelt in a poem, to Bil Keane in 1994.

I guess I don’t feel like it really matters who wrote it, for the sake of using it in my blog, I will say that it was not me ðŸ˜Š

Jeremiah was in prison when he heard this word from God.

I would think that when one is at the lowest point of their life they would indeed call out to God.

Jeremiah received a word of hope and promise when he heard the Lord speak.

Can you hear God when you call?

Set your mind on Him and focus, He will answer, but you may not like what you hear.

God promised to care for you and love you and show you the way to Him.

Seek the truth and He will answer.

grace

But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.

- Ephesians 2:4-5

We are saved by grace.

Five small words that have huge meaning.

It doesn’t matter what we have done, God’s amazing grace is there, waiting for us to take it.

Song reference (first one of 2021!)

There's got to be more
Than going back and forth
From doing right to doing wrong
'Cause we were taught that's who we are
Come on get in line right behind me
You along with everybody
Thinking there's worth in what you do

Then like a hero who takes the stage when
We're on the edge of our seats saying it's too late
Well let me introduce you to amazing grace

No matter the bumps
No matter the bruises
No matter the scars
Still the truth is
The cross has made
The cross has made you flawless
No matter the hurt
Or how deep the wound is
No matter the pain
Still the truth is
The cross has made
The cross has made you flawless

Could it possibly be
That we simply can't believe
That this unconditional
Kind of love would be enough
To take a filthy wretch like this
And wrap him up in righteousness
But that's exactly what He did

No matter the bumps
No matter the bruises
No matter the scars
Still the truth is
The cross has made
The cross has made you flawless
No matter the hurt
Or how deep the wound is
No matter the pain
Still the truth is
The cross has made
The cross has made you flawless

Take a breath smile and say
Right here right now I'm ok
Because the cross was enough

Then Like a hero who takes the stage when
We're on the edge of our seats saying it's too late
Well let me introduce you to grace grace
God's grace

No matter the bumps
No matter the bruises
No matter the scars
Still the truth is
The cross has made
The cross has made you flawless
No matter the hurt
Or how deep the wound is
No matter the pain
Still the truth is
The cross has made
The cross has made you flawless

No matter what they say
Or what you think you are
The day you called His name
He made you flawless
He made you flawless
No matter the bumps
No matter the bruises
No matter the scars
Still the truth is
The cross has made
The cross has made you flawless

Amazing grace – we don’t deserve it, but God gives it freely to those who ask.

What are you waiting for?

lead us

The true children of God are those who let God’s Spirit lead them.

- Romans 8:14

As we begin the new year, everyone is talking about the resolutions they have made.

How about if we resolve to pray every day to be led by God?

Let’s take it a step further, and pray daily for the leaders of our nation, that they let God’s Spirit lead them when making decisions that will affect our country.

Even bigger, pray for the leaders of the world, that we are able to co-exist peacefully with one another.

Remember that we are all children of God, even those who chose not to accept Him and we need to pray for everyone unconditionally.

Perhaps if we focus more on Him and less on hatred and anger, we can rebuild this world to the greatness it should be.

Happy New Year

Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.

- Isaiah 43:18-19

Happy New Year!

Go into today knowing that God is bringing good and wonderful things to us this year.

Don’t continue to agonize over last year, move on!

If we can make it through the insanity that was 2020, we can do anything – as long as we walk with God.

Happy New Year!
