Yet I will rejoice in the Lord; I will be happy in the God of my salvation.
- Habakkuk 3:18 (TLB)
Do you know anyone who always seems perpetually happy—someone who, even when knee-deep in adversity, still manages to find a reason to smile and express gratitude? I’ll admit, I’ve felt a bit envious of people like that. How is it possible to maintain happiness all the time? Doesn’t anything ever get them down? Deep down, I aspire to be more like them, to find joy in every moment, even during the difficult ones. The Message translation of this verse reads: Though the cherry trees don’t blossom and the strawberries don’t ripen, Though the apples are worm-eaten and the wheat fields stunted, Though the sheep pens are sheepless and the cattle barns empty, I’m singing joyful praise to God. I’m turning cartwheels of joy to my Savior God. Counting on God’s Rule to prevail, I take heart and gain strength. I run like a deer. I feel like I’m king of the mountain! There is the key: Counting on God’s Rule to prevail. We can find true happiness because we have God on our side. We are never alone in our struggles, and we don’t have to face each day without guidance when we trust in Him. The Bible is full of wisdom—there’s a verse or a story to guide us through every moment of our lives. So take heart and remember: don’t worry, be happy!
